Behaviour
At Alt Academy, we believe that excellent behaviour is the foundation for successful learning. We want every child to feel safe, happy and valued, and to learn in a calm, purposeful environment where they can achieve their very best.
Our approach is built around high expectations, positive relationships and consistency. From the moment children join us, we explicitly teach what positive behaviour looks like. Children learn how to make good choices, show consideration for others, take responsibility for their actions and develop the attitudes they need to become confident and successful learners.
At the heart of our approach are our Golden Rules:
Be kind – we care for one another and consider how our words and actions affect others.
Be helpful – we support others and make a positive contribution to our school community.
Be hardworking – we give our best, persevere when things are difficult and take pride in our learning.
Be respectful – we listen to others, value differences and treat everyone and our school environment with respect.
Our Golden Rules provide a simple and consistent framework that children understand and that staff reinforce throughout the school day. Positive behaviour, effort and achievement are recognised and celebrated, helping children understand that their choices make a difference to themselves and those around them.
We also recognise that behaviour is something children learn and develop over time. When a child finds it difficult to meet our expectations, our response is supportive as well as consistent. Staff help children reflect on what has happened, understand the impact of their choices and develop the skills needed to make better choices in the future. Where additional support is required, our pastoral team and senior leaders work closely with children and their families.
Weekly assemblies led by Mrs Grady and Mr Bramah bring our whole school community together to revisit our Golden Rules, celebrate positive choices and reinforce the values and behaviours that make Alt Academy a safe, welcoming and successful place to learn.
